At Creative Financial Solutions, we’ve been advising clients since 2000, and as you’ll read below, we offer a wealth of experience, and together form a very knowledgeable and experienced team. Collectively, we’ve spent over 70 years in the financial services industry.

Duncan Sherlock

Duncan has been offering in-depth independent advice to a wide range of clients for over 25 years. His comprehensive knowledge of financial services comes from his years spent at HSBC, together with the practical experience he has gained since he set up Creative Financial Solutions in 2000.

He’s proud of the close personal service that he and his colleagues offer today. His approach is always to listen to what clients want from their money and to help them develop these themes into workable plans and effective strategies. Clients learn a lot from him, and over the years have come to rely more and more on his advice and guidance. Duncan sums up his approach as follows: “What we’ve gathered over the years is that clients want to be better informed about how to plan their money for the short and long-term, and that’s where we can work in partnership with them to get the best outcomes for them and their families.”

When he’s not at work, Duncan is the founder and trustee of Help Hoima, a charity that supports a community in Uganda. He and his colleagues are also active supporters of local community projects and have been the main sponsor of the HW festival for several years.

Duncan is married to Helen, and father to Ellie a teacher, university student Hugo, and Eliza and Maddie who are embarking on their A-levels.

Simon John

Simon’s career started at HSBC. In the 20 years he spent there, he learned a tremendous amount about the different specialisms that are required to be able to offer clients the comprehensive financial advice service they are proud to provide today. He joined Creative Financial Solutions in 2006, and with his colleagues has been instrumental in helping the business grow and flourish.

He and the team pride themselves on building long-lasting relationships with their clients, helping them over the years to reach their financial goals. Simon has a clear understanding of what clients are looking for in a financial adviser, he sums this up as follows: “I believe it’s important to take time to get to know my clients and to understand how best I can help them make their wealth work hard for them. Financial products can often seem very complex if you don’t deal with them every day, so I’m delighted when my clients tell me that I have a ‘can do’ attitude and I’m good at explaining things to them in a straightforward and jargon-free way.”

When he’s not at work, Simon enjoys playing and watching football. He’s married to Lorraine and has two sons, Harry who’s a Sustainability Design Engineer, and George who has just started university.

Phil John

Phil began his financial services career at HSBC, where he gained a good grounding in a wide variety of products, services and policies. In 2005, armed with the necessary specialist knowledge, he left to become an independent mortgage broker.

His comprehensive understanding of how the mortgage market works, his in-depth practical experience and wide network of mortgage industry contacts, all mean that he is well-placed to assist his clients, wherever they find themselves on the housing ladder, and whatever their property goals might be.

He’s quick to acknowledge that over the years, many aspects of the mortgage landscape have changed markedly, and there have been many new products and new regulations introduced, making it more important than ever that clients get the informed advice they need when choosing the mortgage that’s right for their financial circumstances. Phil sums up what he offers clients in the following terms: “I take personal pride in helping clients every step of the way, I believe in being on hand throughout the mortgage process to ensure it is as smooth and stress-free as possible.”

Out of working hours, he includes football, running and listening to House music amongst his hobbies. He’s married, with two sons, one is training to be a Chartered Surveyor and the other is a student at Newcastle University.
